A conversation isn't just about knowing the right words. It's about using them to get something done.
That's the idea behind the latest update to Speaking Practice.
Every character now enters the conversation with their own goal. A shop assistant wants to help you choose something. A neighbor has news to share. They ask questions because they need answers, not because they're waiting for you to say the next sentence.
We've also made conversations easier to follow. Characters respond with shorter, more natural replies, one idea at a time, so listening feels closer to a real conversation.
They're also more grounded. Characters won't make up details about your life or pretend to know things you haven't told them. When they need information, they'll simply ask.
And conversations now end when they've reached a natural conclusion. Once you've finished what you came to do, the scene wraps up instead of drifting into endless small talk.
The result is speaking practice that feels less like talking to an AI and more like talking to a person.
Try it the next time you open Speaking Practice. Pick any scene and reply however you like, by speaking or typing.
