On some dating apps un crush can also mean the little signal you send, basically a like or charm. So il m'a envoyé un crush is app wording, not necessarily he confessed love to me.

tiny nuance, with teenagers a crush is often the person you talk about before anything happens. Once they are actually together, it becomes mon mec, ma meuf, mon copain, not really mon crush anymore

For school or work French, I would dodge this word tbh. My niece says j'ai un crush sur lui all the time, but in a meeting or a presentation I'd switch to attirance, béguin, or just craquer pour quelqu'un.
