Nice phrase to add maybe: ķerties pie darba. It is the Latvian way of saying get down to work, and it takes pie plus darba, not darbu.

for learners: esmu darbā means I am at work. eju uz darbu is I am going to work. I hear uz and want to use it everywhere, but nope, location is just darbā

The little trap is that darba is not only the genitive of darbs, it also sits in front of loads of work words: darba laiks, darba devējs, darba līgums, darba vieta. I kept trying to translate those as if darba was an adjective, and it made my Latvian sound clunky.
