Dont read it like English my. Polish y in my is that hard vowel learners hate, much closer to mih than mai. If you say mai, people may need a second to parse it.

English speakers put my everywhere at first, because we do it with we. In Polish idziemy already has the we inside it. My idziemy is more like WE are going, not you lot, not them.
